Breast Self-Examination
(go to beginning)

What To Do If You Find Something

If you feel something unusual in your breast, first check the other breast in the same area. It will probably feel very similar, which is a good sign that what you are feeling is a normal part of your breast tissue. However, anytime you see or feel anything that is unusual in either breast, it is important to consult your physician right away.

He or she will discuss the problem with you, and help you select the appropriate medical resource to evaluate the problem further. Realize that approximately 8 out of 10 lumps are NOT malignant, but all lumps should be checked by a qualified health professional as soon as possible.
