In
addition to its high quality treatment facilities, The Hoffberger Breast
Center at Mercy participates in a number of clinical trials, research
projects, and outreach programs. Through these activities, we contribute
to breakthroughs in treatment, prevention, and awareness of breast disease.
The Hoffberger Breast Center at Mercy leads the development of new treatments
for chronic breast pain. We are also part of a national research effort
to use new technology to reduce breast biopsies.
The Center works to increase awareness of breast cancer and the benefits
of early detection through our successful educational and community outreach
programs:
- We participate each year in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's
"Race for the Cure" by staffing an information booth and providing materials
about breast cancer prevention, detection, and survival.
- We are actively involved in the "Check It Out" program presented by
Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of America. "Check It Out"
is a breast health program created in 1994 for young women in their
last two years of high school, and includes a one-hour instruction class
which features information on performing a breast self-examination.
Since its inception, the program has reached more than 100,000 young
women across the United States and 30,000 in Maryland.
